Refunds & the application deposit
How the refundable deposit and the application fee work. · 2 min read
When an applicant pays, the amount splits in two: a $20 non-refundable application fee (it covers the credit check) and a refundable good-faith deposit held in escrow.
- 1To return the refundable deposit, decline the application — set its status to Denied on the application detail page.
- 2shtub automatically refunds the refundable portion to the applicant. The $20 fee stays non-refundable.
Good to know — For a deal that has progressed to move-in finances (invoices and transactions), refunds and adjustments are handled in that deal’s finance area rather than here.
Good to know — shtub processes the refund of money already collected through shtub — it can’t refund payments made outside the platform.
