What fees are there when I apply?

The application fee, the refundable deposit, and move-in costs. · 2 min read

When you submit an application you’ll pay two things together:

  1. 1A $20 application fee — non-refundable. It covers the credit and background check.
  2. 2A refundable good-faith deposit (often around $1,000) — held in escrow while your application is reviewed.

Good to know — If your application is declined, the refundable deposit is returned to you. The $20 application fee is not refundable because the check has already been run.

Separately, your move-in costs (first month’s rent, any broker fee, the security deposit) are itemized on the offer so you can see the full picture *before* you commit. shtub doesn’t add its own fee to your rent.

Good to know — shtub doesn’t set these amounts or give financial or legal advice — the listing’s agent or landlord can answer specifics about a particular apartment.
